Summer Learning Journey- Message from Allie Costello

Good Afternoon,

This is a friendly reminder that the Summer Learning Journey blogging programme officially starts on Monday 18 December 2017. We can’t wait to start blogging with your students!!

The programme will run from Monday 18 December 2017 to Friday 26 January 2018 and we will have educators online, ready to read student’s blogs and post comments, each and every day of the holiday (with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years’ Eve Day and New Year's’ Day). We will post personalised, positive, helpful and thoughtful comments on each students’ blog site. We will also encourage the students to comment on one another’s work and attempt to generate long comment threads (akin to those generated through the Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu site created by Tania Coutts).

All programme participants will receive participation certificates and online badges. The top 3 bloggers from each school will also receive a special prize pack.

If possible, please encourage your students to participate in the Summer Learning Journey programme. To participate, they must hop onto the Summer Learning Journey site, register for the programme and then go to the ‘Weekly Activities’ tab. Here they can choose an activity and post their response to their school-sponsored blog site.

If students don’t have access to a computer, please encourage them to go to their local library. We have librarians in the community keen to support the programme and promote student learning over the holidays.

An important note regarding the programme. The audio version will be live by the 18th and the downloadable version will be available from Wednesday (13 Dec) morning. So for any students who would like to download the pdf version they are able to before school finishes for the year.
Also the students will be able to view the twitter feed on the Manaiakalani website to see all the other students that are taking part in the programme around the country. Twitter Feed

I will be accessible via email and phone for the entire holiday period. Please don’t hesitate to contact me any time on tokipounamucluster@gmail.com

Wishing you a safe, happy and restful holiday season. I will see you in 2018!

Kind Regards
Allie Costello

Many movies have changed over the years. Simple made up movies. Most of the startups were cartoons in black and white. But now we have the best live action films with some being based on true stories. Movies are what people love in this world. Most people don't have a tv or a radio but when they first encountered it they thought it was magic.

SHORT FILM!

Next year there is going to be a short film masterclass class letting you write act and direct your own short film.

Yesterday the Potato Peelers won the party vote. The peelers are celebrating their winning by doing a gala day at domain park.

The date is november 21st. There will be fish and chips, free snacks, drinks and awesome games to play. Bring your family along. It will be a potato peeler day!
DRAMA

There are 3 kinds of drama. There is shadow drama, puppet drama and live action drama. People love drama. But people love movies more. But what they don't know is that the actor in the movie is doing drama. A movie is drama only when your watching it sometimes you believe that you're actually doing it too. Drama is a fantastic thing yet not many people notice it.

WEATHER THE WEATHER BE FINE!
By: J.Costello

Weather the weather be fine,
Weather the weather be not,
Weather the weather be cold,
Weather the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather,
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!

AQUATIC CENTRE CLOSED FOR MORE THAN 10 WEEKS!

The aquatic centre has closed till winter next year. Most people are complaining that the workers haven't even started on the pool yet but still can't wait till the reopening. The reason it closed is because the roof of the aquatic is bending down. Like if you nail the four points of plastic bag but put a puddle of water in it it won't stay flat. It would go more down. So the aquatic centre is closed till further notice.

Image result for maori legends

Our maori culture is not exactly what you think. None of our ancestors were really born in New Zealand. In Fact they didn’t find NZ until the year 1642. Some of our ancestors are eastern polynesian. Most of our legends say that before we even got here that others were here before us. People like Maui. Our legends are stuff like how Maui slowed the sun or how maui brought up a island. They are really fascinating. Just to take a look.
HOW TO MAKE A MUFFIN!
by: Joshua.C

Image result for plain muffin
INGREDIENTS
2 cups white flour
   1 tablespoon baking powder
               1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 cup milk
1/4 cup melted butter
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter muffin pans. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the egg, milk, and butter, stirring only enough to dampen the flour; the batter should not be smooth. Spoon into the muffin pans, filling each cup about two-thirds full. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes each.
Then eat and enjoy

And that is how you make yummy muffins. Of Course you can add flavors like chocolate, banana or berries but this is just the overall test.

HUMAN CHANGE!
Over the past billion years the world has changed. We go from scraping two rocks together to pushing a button to keep ourselves warm. In the age of knights in shining armour or any age before it anybody who made one of the things we make today would be called a Wizard/Sorcerer. Everybody those days thought is was fascinating sourcery when it was just science. How did we change? Will we change again? Will we ever stop changing?

DO WE CONTROL OUR EMOTIONS?

Most scientists are discovering more things every day. But there is one thing they have we been working on for a long time. Do we control our emotions?

The difference between those who can control their emotions and those who can't control them is not giving in to the negative thoughts that visit their minds under pressure. It is possible to control your emotions but if you want do it then you must not take any quick decision or do anything until you feel calmer.

So many people are hyped so see the new justice league film. But some people in fact half of the people in the world are wondering about one thing. Will the film be good. Now you may be thinking “it's going to be the best!” but if Batman v superman was a big drop then why would justice league be any better.

Of course there is a new director lightening up and putting in a few knocks to zack snyder's point of view for the movie but people that have seen the film are complaining that characters like aquaman don't get enough screen time. And that the film can be a little bit longer than 2 and a half hours.
BACTERIA IN WATER!
by: Joshua.C

Image result for bacteria
There is a lot of bacteria in the world but many people know that there is a lot of bacteria in water. Of course you know to run your tap before getting a drink out of it because of the bugs getting stuck inside of it. But im talking about water in rivers. This is why you should reconsider everytime you go on a tramp and forget your drink bottle, don't drink out of the river. There are fecal bacteria, enterococci bacteria and coliphage bacteria.

Fecal bacteria is pretty simple. They are not dangerous to humans but are dangerous to our health risk. It is a large gene lactic acid (organic compound with the formula CH₃CHCOOH.

Enterococci bacteria are also pretty simple and harmless but are quite hard to take out of the human body since it forms a chain around mostly everything it touches.

The Coliphage bacteria is of course a bacteria but despite other bacterias the coliphage has a variety of them. They are called coliphage (which infect many subspecies of Escherichia coli). Those coliphage that infect the bacteria via the cell membrane are called somatic coliphage.

EARTHQUAKE CONCERN!

A earthquake happens 73 km from New Caledonia · 20 Nov, 11:43 AM.

People are very concerned about death from earthquakes.
People are not only angry but scared for themselves.

Some of them are even more concerned that a big enough earthquake can create a tsunami and wipe out cities is a flash.

Of course we cannot stop earthquakes but maybe we can predict them. We can sometimes predict the weather but can we predict earthquakes.

If you have any complaints go to the website EQC Complaint Form. com, click on the website, fill in your email and make a complaint.

What we have in common with animals.

1. Compassion
We have learned that we are the same from a lot of things like. They have foster parents we have foster parent, they love their babies we love our babies, and compassion. Both of us have compassion.
2.Patience
We have also learned that we value time time as much as we love money. But animals have a lot of patience and so do we. we don't like rushing and  we don't like running on our quick schedule.
3. How to live in the now
Another thing that we have in common with animals is that we enjoy the now. We are excited for the future but one thing is that we love living in the now. We can not like the now on a bad day but we can never stop living the now.

4. We are all Connected
We are all connected in some way. When the lions die they become the grass. the Deer and sheep eat the grass. We eat those animals, and the lions eat us.
5. Respect others
Not only do us humans respect others before us but so do the animals. Elephants comfort upset parents, dolphins call each other by name, primates use tools. There is an endless list of how they comfort others.
We like to think that our intelligence is unparalleled but we were wrong. If we had even seen the chance to make a friendly relationship we would take it.
