Summer Learning Journey- Message from Allie Costello

Good Afternoon,

This is a friendly reminder that the Summer Learning Journey blogging programme officially starts on Monday 18 December 2017. We can’t wait to start blogging with your students!!

The programme will run from Monday 18 December 2017 to Friday 26 January 2018 and we will have educators online, ready to read student’s blogs and post comments, each and every day of the holiday (with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years’ Eve Day and New Year's’ Day). We will post personalised, positive, helpful and thoughtful comments on each students’ blog site. We will also encourage the students to comment on one another’s work and attempt to generate long comment threads (akin to those generated through the Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu site created by Tania Coutts).

All programme participants will receive participation certificates and online badges. The top 3 bloggers from each school will also receive a special prize pack.

If possible, please encourage your students to participate in the Summer Learning Journey programme. To participate, they must hop onto the Summer Learning Journey site, register for the programme and then go to the ‘Weekly Activities’ tab. Here they can choose an activity and post their response to their school-sponsored blog site.

If students don’t have access to a computer, please encourage them to go to their local library. We have librarians in the community keen to support the programme and promote student learning over the holidays.

An important note regarding the programme. The audio version will be live by the 18th and the downloadable version will be available from Wednesday (13 Dec) morning. So for any students who would like to download the pdf version they are able to before school finishes for the year.
Also the students will be able to view the twitter feed on the Manaiakalani website to see all the other students that are taking part in the programme around the country. Twitter Feed

I will be accessible via email and phone for the entire holiday period. Please don’t hesitate to contact me any time on tokipounamucluster@gmail.com

Wishing you a safe, happy and restful holiday season. I will see you in 2018!

Kind Regards
Allie Costello

  2. Kia ora Josh,

My name is Emiely (pronounced "Emily") and I am a blogger at the Summer Learning Journey. My job is to connect with students and reply to your blog posts. I live in Auckland, but I think it's really neat that we can communicate with each other through blogging! What do you do for fun in Greymouth? I've never been to the South Island before so would love to know!

I know it's a bit tricky to start, but if you wanted to continue blogging over the summer holidays remember to head over to the activities page on the Summer Learning Journey website. You can do these activities in any order. Be sure to remember to post your answers onto your blog.
